Do you see how we are in need of “soft food” in that the Gospel extract which is read on the day of the Annunciation begins with Saint Elizabeth’s conception in old age and the rest which was to come (see Luke 1: 24–38).
What is solid food?
Solid food is, that the One Who is more honourable than the cherubim and immeasurably more glorious than the seraphim did not have need of an angel, even if that were the Archangel Gabriel, to learn the truth about the incarnation from the Holy Spirit of the Son of God in Her.
Do you remember what I have told you: at the second stage of spiritual development – enlightenment of the mind, we gain a certain freedom before God. Then, not only will our main plans often coincide with God’s plans, although not always at the time we expect, but now we receive the gift of God, ourselves, in our heart – in the realm of the Kingdom of Heaven, in order to prepare that which we desire for us.
I am talking to you about the graceful struggle (endeavour) of ascetic prayer of the mind in the heart.
How much more all of this is brought to bear on the unattainable hesychastic-prayer struggle that the Most-Holy Theotokos had in the Holy of Holies within the Temple of the Old Testament.

The Divine Liturgy in one hand is a real-life environment, and on the other hand, a source from which we feed with everlasting food. Therefore, we need to live in such a liturgical atmosphere and eat that food. That is why the Lord, before He was crucified, before He died on the Cross, before He was resurrected and ascended into heaven, showed us and gave us that true food – His Body and Blood. Before ascending into heaven, He promised His apostles that He would send them the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, and He fulfilled this promise on the day of Pentecost, and consequently He established the Church. Therefore, the Church is our true abode in which we live, and the Holy Communion (Holy Eucharist) is our real food and drink which we eat, and outside of the Church, and without the Holy Communion, there is no life.

Литургијата од една страна e реална животна средина, а од друга страна, извор од кој ние се храниме со непропадлива храна. И заради тоа нас ни е потребно да живееме во таа атмосфера и да се храниме со таа храна. Затоа и Господ пред да биде распнат, пред да умре на Крстот, да воскресне и да се вознесе, ни ја покажа и ни ја даде таа вистинската храна – Телото и Крвта Негова. Пред да се вознесе на небесата Тој им вети на своите апостоли дека ќе им го испрати Утешителот, Духот на Вистината, и Тој тоа го исполни на Педесетница со што и ја оформи Црквата, и затоа Црквата е нашето вистинско место во кое живееме, а Светата Причест е нашата вистинска храна и пиење со кои се храниме и надвор од, и без тоа, нема живот.

We are entering the period of the Great Lent. We start with the three days of absolute fasting (absolute abstinence from food and drink). In the Church of God this is not just a period with a special order and rules, this is, above all, a period of special grace.
We know that this period of special joy is a gift of God in which we experience all our struggle (asceticism) more easily. It is easier to fast, it is easier to pray, it is easier to forgive, it is easier to live the mystery of the overall repentance. Do you see what kind of antinomy this is – hard, yet easy?
If someone asked me to describe this period in one word, and especially the first three days, I would use the word ‘freedom’ for that purpose. It is the feeling that overwhelms me and that I experience every time at the beginning of the Holy forty-day-period of fast. And without freedom there is no person or personal relationship. Without freedom there is no love.

Влегуваме во периодот на Големиот пост. Почнуваме со ’тримерот‘. Во Црквата Божја ова не е само период со некој посебен ред и правила, ова е, пред сè, период на посебна благодат.
Знаеме дека овој период на посебна радост е Божји дар во кој целиот наш подвиг полесно го доживуваме. Полесно постиме, полесно се молиме, полесно простуваме, полесно ја живееме тајната на севкупното покајание. Гледате ли каква антиномија е тоа – тешко, а лесно?
Кога некој би побарал од мене со еден збор да го опишам овој период, а посебно првите три дена, јас би го употребил за таа цел зборот ’слобода‘. Тоа е чувството што ме прозема и што го доживувам секој пат на почетокот од светата Четириесетница. А, без слобода нема ни личност ни личносни односи. Без слобода нема ни љубов.
